Jagjit Kaur was born into a Sikh family in Chandigarh. Jagjit Kaur came to Mumbai with the dream of becoming a playback singer in films. Jagjit Kaur played a special role in Khayyam’s musical journey. Kaur herself was a great singer. The famous song from the movie ‘Shagun’ composed by Khayyam – Tum Apna Ranzo Gham Apni Pareshani Mujhe De Do is one of the amazing songs sung by Jagjit Kaur. Jagjit Kaur has sung at least one song in most of Khayyam’s films. She had sung great songs in selected Hindi films. She sang ‘Dekh Lo Humko Ji Bharke’ from ‘Bazar’ or ‘Kahe Ko Bayahe Bides’ from ‘Umrao Jaan’. The couple had a son, Pradeep, who starred in the 1990 film Jane Wafa. But Pradeep died of a heart attack at an early age.
